Better Bids. Stronger Partnerships.

That was the theme under which this year’s Central Procurement Unit (CPU) Symposium was held.

Funded by GIZ (German Agency For International Cooperation) and the Government of Grenada, the event brought together contractors, vendors, consultants, and public servants for two days of engaging discussions and practical learning focused on public procurement. The symposium provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and exploring ways to strengthen procurement practices across both the public and private sectors. 

The event was divided into two distinct components. Day One featured the opening ceremony and presentations, while Day Two focused on hands-on training sessions and practical procurement scenarios. 

Day One

The symposium commenced with opening remarks from key stakeholders, setting the stage for two days of learning and collaboration. Participants were treated to presentations on a range of topics, including e-procurement, sustainable procurement practices, upcoming government projects, and lessons learned by GIZ’s in implementing projects. 

Arguably, the highlight of the day was the roundtable discussion. Representatives from the private sector joined a senior procurement official to discuss challenges, opportunities, and ways to improve engagement between buyers and suppliers. The conversation was candid, insightful, and reinforced the importance of collaboration in achieving effective procurement outcomes. 

The day concluded with a networking event where participants had the opportunity to build partnerships, make new connections, and exchange ideas in a more informal setting. It was a fitting end to a day dedicated to strengthening relationships and fostering mutual understanding between procurement stakeholders. 

Day Two

Rumbling skies and heavy rain greeted the participants on the second day. Given the challenging weather conditions, one might have wondered who would be willing to brave the elements to attend. 

Encouragingly, nearly every room was filled to capacity, reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of those present.

Throughout the day, participants exchanged laughter, shared experiences, discussed best practices, and gained valuable insights from each other.

As the day drew to a close, attendees gathered in the ballroom for the final session. While some had already begun their journey home, those who remained filled the room with quiet conversation and occasional bursts of laughter, as they reflected on the experiences of the past two days. 

Representatives from each training session were invited to share their key takeaways. Nods of agreement rippled through the audience as speakers described what they had learned, and how the knowledge gained would guide their future approach to preparing bids and managing the procurement process.

The day’s events highlighted not only a willingness to learn by the participants, but also a genuine commitment to improving and transforming the way public procurement is delivered.

With Symposium branded bags in hand and a renewed sense of purpose, participants bid farewell, carrying with them new insights, stronger professional connections, and a positive outlook on the future of public procurement. With the 2026 Symposium now concluded, many are already looking forward to the next symposium and the opportunities for learning, collaboration, and growth it will undoubtedly bring.
